Monster Energy is once again set to inject its unmistakable high-voltage energy into the Simola Hillclimb, reinforcing a partnership that has become as much a part of the event’s identity as the roar of engines echoing through Knysna’s forested hills. Since joining forces with South Africa’s premier motoring and motorsport lifestyle event in 2017, the global energy drinks brand has evolved from a supporting presence into one of the Hillclimb’s defining experiential anchors.

Returning for the 16th edition, taking place from 30 April to 3 May 2026, Monster Energy continues to align seamlessly with the spirit of the Simola Hillclimb. It is an event where raw performance meets precision driving, and where motorsport culture spills beyond the track into a full-spectrum lifestyle experience. According to Jéann Steyn, Monster Energy’s Regional Marketing Manager for South Africa, this synergy is precisely what keeps the partnership thriving. The combination of speed, driver skill and immersive fan engagement positions the Hillclimb as one of the crown jewels of the local racing calendar, making it a natural fit for a brand built on adrenaline and attitude.

At the heart of Monster’s on-site presence is the ever-popular Monster Energy Zone at Turn 2, a vantage point that has steadily grown into one of the most sought-after spectator hubs. More than just a viewing deck, the activation delivers a multi-sensory experience designed to pull fans deeper into the action. Visitors can expect interactive elements that blur the line between spectator and participant, from photobooth moments to product sampling that showcases both familiar favourites and new additions to the Monster lineup. The atmosphere is unmistakably vibrant, underscored by the brand’s signature aesthetic and the presence of the iconic Monster Girls, who add to the event’s festival-like energy.

This year also marks the introduction of new product highlights, including the recently launched Strawberry Dreams flavour and a limited-edition Lando Norris can. These additions offer fans and competitors alike a chance to engage with the brand beyond the track, turning a simple refreshment into part of the broader Hillclimb narrative. It is a subtle but effective extension of Monster’s strategy, where product and experience converge to reinforce brand identity in a setting that thrives on sensory intensity.

Beyond the static activations, Monster Energy’s involvement extends into the dynamic heart of the event through the return of the Monster Drift Taxi. Piloted by seasoned driver Jim McFarlane, the V8-powered machine is set to deliver its signature smoke-laden performances, transforming sections of the Hillclimb into a theatre of controlled chaos. Scheduled appearances during the Classic Car Friday Parade on 30 April and the King of the Hill Parade on 1 May will set the tone, while additional lunchtime drift demonstrations across the weekend promise to keep adrenaline levels high between competitive runs. These displays have become a crowd favourite, offering a visceral counterpoint to the precision-focused time attacks that define the Hillclimb itself.

For the organisers, Monster Energy’s continued involvement represents more than just sponsorship. Ian Shrosbree, Managing Director of the Knysna Speed Festival, highlights the brand’s role in shaping the event’s atmosphere over the years. What began as a modest activation has grown into a cornerstone of the Hillclimb experience, contributing to both the on-track spectacle and the off-track vibrancy that draws thousands of enthusiasts to Knysna each year. The partnership’s evolution mirrors the growth of the event itself, reflecting a shared commitment to innovation, engagement and the celebration of automotive culture.

As anticipation builds for the 2026 edition, the presence of Monster Energy ensures that the Simola Hillclimb will once again deliver more than just competition. It will be a convergence of speed, sound and spectacle, where fans are not merely observers but active participants in a high-energy environment. In a landscape where motorsport events increasingly compete for attention, it is this fusion of performance and experience that continues to set the Simola Hillclimb apart, with Monster Energy firmly embedded at its core.

Tickets and additional event information are available through the official Simola Hillclimb website.
