Kia has always been at the forefront of driving forward-thinking design, and its Concept EV2 is the latest embodiment of this vision. Unveiled at Milan Design Week 2025 as part of the brand’s Transcend Journey exhibit, the Concept EV2 represents more than just a bold statement in urban mobility. It marks a transformative shift in how design and sustainability can come together to enhance the user experience in electric vehicles. Inspired by the concept of a ‘picnic in the city,’ the Concept EV2 redefines versatility, comfort, and eco-conscious design, offering a glimpse into the future of urban living and driving.

A User-Centric Approach: Flexibility Meets Functionality

At its core, the Concept EV2 is built with a clear purpose: to create a space that is both highly adaptable and environmentally responsible, offering a truly unique user experience. With a focus on maximizing the efficiency of space, especially in the first-row area, Kia’s design team has integrated several innovative features that transform the cabin into a flexible and functional environment.

The flat-floor layout allows for second-row seats that fold away seamlessly, while the front seats slide back, creating a more spacious and open interior. Additionally, side-extendable seat elements offer even further cabin expansion, providing the perfect setting for a variety of activities—from a quick city picnic to a day of relaxation in the urban landscape. Thoughtfully designed features, including detachable seat cushions, portable door speakers, and pop-up luggage dividers, further enhance the Concept EV2’s user experience, ensuring it caters to both everyday usability and leisure-focused moments.

Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy shines through, balancing compact dimensions with spacious versatility. This blend creates a welcoming environment that promotes relaxation, functionality, and connectivity—both inside the vehicle and with the outside world. Whether commuting through the city or enjoying a spontaneous outdoor activity, the Concept EV2 interior is designed to feel open and connected, offering a haven of comfort amidst the urban bustle.

Kia Concept Ev2 Revolutionizing Urban Mobility With Sustainable Innovation

Sustainable Materials: A Commitment to the Circular Economy

Kia has gone beyond surface-level innovation by infusing the Concept EV2’s cabin with environmentally conscious materials that contribute to a circular economy. The use of advanced materials like Simplifyber Fybron™, mycelium, and AmpliTex™ underscores Kia’s commitment to sustainability while offering an innovative approach to design and durability.

Simplifyber Fybron™: A standout material, this next-generation cellulose-based compound is made from renewable sources like wood, paper, and recycled textiles. It replaces traditional plastics, reducing environmental impact while enhancing the cabin’s tactile feel. The material’s premium texture offers a cleaner, more sustainable alternative to conventional options, ensuring the interior is both environmentally mindful and long-lasting.

Mycelium: In partnership with Biomyc, Kia has incorporated mycelium-based materials into the Concept EV2’s interior, adding a natural depth and texture to the cabin. Grown from agricultural waste, mycelium is biodegradable and offers excellent insulation properties. Its versatility is evident in the light blue surfaces where polyurethane infused with mycelium particles creates a unique, organic texture, and in the door armrests, where grown mycelium binds cellulose into a solid structure. This innovation not only reduces reliance on synthetic materials but also contributes to a more comfortable and sustainable driving experience.

AmpliTex™: Kia’s collaboration with Bcomp introduces this bio-based composite material made from flax fibres into structural components like the back seat shell and front seat substructures. AmpliTex™ helps reduce vehicle weight while maintaining the strength required from a lifestyle-focused SUV. Fully recyclable, this material supports a more sustainable vehicle lifecycle by contributing to the brand’s vision of a circular economy.

Together, these materials reflect Kia’s forward-thinking approach to eco-friendly innovation, offering a perfect blend of sustainable practices and modern design.

The Future of Interior Design: Innovation and Aesthetics in Harmony

The Concept EV2’s interior is a testament to Kia’s dedication to both aesthetic and functional excellence. Beyond its sustainability credentials, the materials used offer a refined, luxurious feel that enhances the user experience. The integration of thoughtful design elements, such as seat headrest-integrated speakers, portable speakers, and flexible seating arrangements, ensures that comfort and leisure are always top of mind.

The CMF (Colour, Materials, Finish) team’s careful selection of materials and finishes enhances the visual and tactile experience of the Concept EV2. Each element—from the natural textures of mycelium to the premium feel of Simplifyber Fybron™—has been selected to create a cohesive and refined atmosphere, aligned with Kia’s commitment to eco-consciousness without sacrificing design elegance.

A Vision for the Future of Urban Mobility

Kia’s Concept EV2 is more than just a vehicle; it’s a bold vision for the future of urban mobility, blending sustainable materials with cutting-edge design to offer a truly user-focused experience. By embracing innovative and eco-friendly materials like mycelium, Simplifyber Fybron™, and AmpliTex™, Kia is setting a new standard for what future vehicles should look and feel like. The Concept EV2 not only speaks to the future of electric SUVs but also to a future where design and sustainability work in harmony to enhance our urban lives.

As Kia continues to push the boundaries of automotive innovation, the Concept EV2 serves as a prime example of how design, technology, and sustainability can come together to create a more responsible and enriching driving experience—one that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of modern urban life.
