After months of anticipation building like a charge slowly filling a high-capacity battery, the all-new iCAUR 03T has officially arrived on South African soil, stepping into the spotlight as a bold new contender in the country’s fast-evolving electric SUV landscape. Positioned under the Chery Global umbrella, the iCAUR subbrand brings its vision of expressive, tech-forward mobility to life with the 03T, a model that blends rugged SUV character with the refinement and efficiency expected from next-generation electric vehicles.
The 03T is introduced locally as a fully electric SUV available in both 2WD and AWD configurations, giving buyers a clear choice between efficient everyday mobility and heightened performance capability. In rear-wheel-drive 2WD form, the SUV produces 135 kW and 220 N.m of torque from a 65.69 kWh battery, delivering a claimed 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 150 km/h. The AWD variant sharpens the experience significantly with a dual-motor setup producing a combined 205 kW and 385 N.m, completing the 0 to 100 km/h run in a brisk 6.5 seconds while drawing energy from a larger 69.77 kWh battery.
Despite their different personalities, both models share a strong focus on efficiency, with NEDC-estimated ranges of 431 km for the 2WD and 436 km for the AWD. Energy consumption is rated at 18.3 kWh/100 km and 19.9 kWh/100 km respectively, and both variants support DC fast charging that can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes, making longer journeys far more practical in real-world conditions.
Visually, the 03T makes an immediate statement with its upright stance, geometric surfacing, and squared proportions that give it a distinctly adventure-ready silhouette. The design is further elevated by slim LED lighting signatures, pronounced wheel arches, and a panoramic glass sunroof that opens the cabin to light and space. Beneath the styling lies an all-aluminium multi-cavity cage body structure designed to improve corrosion resistance over an extended lifespan while also reducing overall weight, contributing to lower energy consumption and improved efficiency.
The SUV rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with 245/55 tyres, supported by ventilated front disc brakes and rear disc brakes, while its chassis is tuned with MacPherson front suspension and a rear multi-link setup that aims to balance comfort with composure across varied road conditions. The AWD model expands its adaptability further with a broader suite of drive modes, including terrain-focused settings such as Slippery, Beach, Muddy, Bumpy, and All-Road Mode, alongside Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom profiles. The 2WD version offers a more streamlined selection of Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom modes.
Inside, the 03T leans heavily into comfort and technology, offering a spacious five-seat layout supported by a 2,715 mm wheelbase. Luggage capacity stands at 450 litres, expanding to 1,238 litres with the rear seats folded, while an additional 40-litre rear storage compartment adds everyday practicality. Cabin materials are premium in feel, with black leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and electrically adjustable front seats included as standard across both variants. The 2WD model provides heating and ventilation for the front seats along with lumbar adjustment for the driver, while the AWD variant introduces a massage function for front occupants and an electrically adjustable leg rest for the front passenger, elevating long-distance comfort.
Technology takes centre stage through a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that integrates vehicle controls alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Audio duties are handled by an eight-speaker system in the 2WD model, while the AWD variant is upgraded to a 12-speaker Infinity sound system for a more immersive experience. Voice command functionality, multiple USB ports including USB-C, and a 50-watt wireless charging pad further enhance everyday usability.
Safety and driver assistance are comprehensive, with six airbags and a full suite of systems including electronic stability control, traction control, and emergency braking assist. A 540-degree surround-view camera system provides enhanced visibility, while advanced driver assistance systems bring features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind spot detection, traffic jam assist, forward collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, creating a strong safety net across urban and highway environments.
According to Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager at iCAUR South Africa and OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, the 03T reflects the brand’s intent to combine distinctive design with everyday usability, positioning it as a lifestyle-focused electric SUV that does not compromise on practicality or technology.
Pricing for the South African market starts at R639,900 for the 2WD model, rising to R699,900 for the AWD variant. Both versions will be available in local showrooms from 28 May 2026, supported by a comprehensive ownership package that includes an eight-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty for the first owner, a five-year/100,000 km service plan, and roadside assistance covering eight years or 200,000 km, reinforcing long-term confidence in electric mobility.
With its blend of bold design, thoughtful engineering, and accessible electric performance, the iCAUR 03T arrives not just as another SUV, but as a signal of where South Africa’s new-energy vehicle market is heading next.
