This new GLC 250 arrives with a starting price of £55,495 in Sport guise, sitting beneath its more powerful sibling whilst still bearing the same noble intent: to deliver that famed “Welcome home.” sensation, wherein comfort, safety, and an easy, almost gentle digital intelligence work in quiet harmony to ease the traveller upon their way.
Under its sculpted body lies an 85 kWh usable battery paired with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 260 kW, or 354 horsepower in more familiar measure. With this arrangement, the vehicle is said to travel up to 389 miles upon a single charge under WLTP conditions, and may be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes when connected to suitably swift charging power of up to 320 kW. Though capable of such urgency, it remains composed, reaching 62 mph in 5.9 seconds with a steadiness that favours refinement over bravado.
The model is offered across a range of specifications, each one layering additional comfort and equipment upon the last, from the more accessible Sport through to AMG Line interpretations and onward to the most lavish Premier Edition. In its more indulgent forms, an optional Refinement Package introduces intelligent air suspension and rear-axle steering, granting both a gentler passage over uneven roads and a surprising nimbleness when the road grows tight or winding.
Practicality, too, hath not been forgotten, for this electric GLC presents generous cargo space extending to 1,740 litres when seats are folded, alongside a 128-litre front compartment, and the ability to tow as much as 2.2 tonnes when properly equipped. It is thus not merely a vessel of comfort, but one of genuine utility for the varied burdens of daily life.
Within the cabin, the experience deepens most notably in higher trims where the MBUX Hyperscreen stretches across the interior in a sweeping, uninterrupted digital expanse. Guided by the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), it binds together navigation, climate, charging intelligence, and driver assistance into one seamless continuum, whilst also receiving over-the-air enhancements through the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud so that the vehicle may grow in capability long after it hath left the factory floor.
Driver assistance is gathered beneath the MB.DRIVE banner, offering standard features such as adaptive distance control and parking assistance, whilst optional enhancements extend toward more advanced assisted driving functions and a heightened 360-degree awareness when manoeuvring in close quarters.
It would be remiss of me not to mention the exterior’s gentle evolution of design language, marked most notably by a re-imagined grille that may be optionally illuminated and animated, lending the vehicle a more expressive face and signalling a new chapter in the marque’s visual identity.
Thus doth this GLC 250 stand as a most thoughtful addition to an already well-received electric family, offering commendable range, swift charging, refined comfort, and a breadth of capability that belies its entry point within the line-up, all whilst furthering the steady march of its maker into the electric age.
