The organisers of the Cape 1000 have officially confirmed the return of South Africa’s celebrated regularity rally, with the 2027 edition set to take place across the Western Cape from 20 to 25 March 2027. Following a memorable and weather-filled 2026 event, next year’s drive will introduce a fresh twist with a Saturday start for the very first time.
The new weekend flag-off is expected to create an even more vibrant atmosphere for participants and spectators alike, as the event once again brings together a remarkable collection of classic and characterful cars against some of the country’s most scenic roads.
The announcement arrives after a 2026 edition that delivered the sort of unpredictability that has become part of the Cape 1000’s charm. Sunshine rolled into rain, coastal winds swept across the route, oysters flowed freely, and participants found themselves immersed in an experience that blended motoring passion with hospitality and friendship.
Moments from the previous rally included aerobatic displays over the West Coast and a live performance by Craig Hinds during registration, helping set the tone for an event that continues to grow beyond the boundaries of a traditional driving rally.
“The best motoring events are never just about the cars, even when the metal on display is this spectacular,” said Vanessa Crichton, Event Director of the Cape 1000. “It is the spirit of the people inside them and the friendships made along the route. After the wonderful, unpredictable weather and the sheer joy of the 2026 event, we knew we had to bring this community back together. The engines are already warming for 2027.”
Alongside the event confirmation, organisers also revealed the official visual identity for the 2027 edition under the theme The Art of the Automobile. The event poster was created by artist and past Cape 1000 participant Tony Crampton, whose work has become known for its nostalgic seventies-inspired style.
Using bold colours, fluid movement, and expressive paint drippings, Crampton’s latest artwork captures the spirit of analogue motoring romance. At the centre of the composition sits the iconic Ferrari Dino, framed against the unmistakable silhouette of Table Mountain in a piece that feels equal parts gallery artwork and vintage racing poster.
While the cars remain central to the experience, the Cape 1000 continues to place equal importance on community impact. Through the support of participants and partners during the 2026 edition, approximately R350,000 was collectively raised for the QuadPara Association of South Africa and the Motorsport Legends Benevolent Fund.
Both organisations will return as official charity partners for the 2027 event, with organisers hoping to exceed the impressive total achieved this year. The continued charitable focus adds another layer of meaning to an event already built around shared experiences and human connection.
The partnership with Private Clients by Old Mutual has also been confirmed for 2027, ensuring continued backing for one of South Africa’s most distinctive automotive lifestyle events.
Beyond the flagship Cape 1000 itself, the organising team has also announced the international expansion of its touring programme through Le Voyage, a curated luxury driving-and-dining experience aimed at enthusiasts seeking a slower and more immersive style of grand touring.
In May 2027, Le Voyage will travel to the Scottish Highlands, where participants will swap coastal South African roads for ancient castles, winding single-track passes, and dramatic northern landscapes. The experience reflects the organisers’ growing ambition to build motoring journeys that extend beyond the vehicle itself and into culture, cuisine, scenery, and storytelling.
Since its inception, the Cape 1000 has steadily evolved into far more than a rally. It has become a rolling celebration of automotive heritage, road-trip camaraderie, and the uniquely cinematic beauty of the Western Cape. From mountain passes to seaside roads, the event continues to attract enthusiasts drawn not only by rare machinery, but by the atmosphere created around it.
Registrations for the 2027 Cape 1000 will officially open in June 2026, with demand expected to remain strong following the success and emotional resonance of the most recent edition.
