KNYSNA, South Africa, April 26, 2024 – In just one week, the picturesque town of Knysna will be transformed into a bustling hub of motorsport excitement with the start of the 14th annual Simola Hillclimb, South Africa’s leading motoring and motorsport lifestyle celebration.
The event revs up on Thursday, May 2, with scrutineering for Classic Car Friday. This will take place from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM on Hedge Street. Enthusiasts can indulge in the free Fan Fest, where they can admire a broad array of classic automobiles before the cars are showcased along Waterfront Drive in the Classic Car Friday Parade from 2:45 PM to 3:15 PM.
On Friday, the iconic 1.9km stretch of Simola Hill will come alive from 8:00 AM with three practice sessions, preparing drivers for three essential qualifying rounds. The midday break will feature an array of demonstrations including a drift showcase by Monster-supported South African Car Park Drift champion Jim Macfarlane and demo runs from Suzuki and BMW, among others.
The excitement will peak during the Class Finals and the highly anticipated Top 10 Shootout, which will determine this year’s Classic Conqueror. The winners will be celebrated immediately following the shootout in the pitlane.
The spectacle continues with scrutineering for King of the Hill competitors on Friday at the same venue from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The day concludes with a thrilling Parade on Waterfront Drive from 5:15 PM to 5:45 PM, featuring breathtaking stunts and tire-smoking displays.
The competition intensifies over the weekend with four practice sessions starting at 9:05 AM on Saturday. Midday entertainment on both days includes a stunning display by the 1992 Sasol-sponsored Jordan 192 Formula 1 car, along with the first three of six qualifying rounds.

On Sunday, after a morning warm-up, the final qualifying rounds will decide the top competitors for each class, setting the stage for the Class Finals and the ultimate Top 10 Shootouts across three categories. The event will culminate in the crowning of the King of the Hill champions.
Aside from the high-octane races, the event offers a wealth of attractions for families and fans. These include food and beverage stalls, exhibitor booths, the Monster Energy Rig Riot, ATK Esports Racing simulator competitions, and breathtaking helicopter tours over the scenic Garden Route.
