Stellantis SA Inspires Youth Towards Promising Automotive Careers
Midrand, Wednesday, July 4, 2024 – Stellantis South Africa hosted a special event at its Midrand headquarters, welcoming 44 members from SOS Children’s Villages to explore diverse career opportunities within the automotive industry.
Accompanied by 14 caregivers, many of whom were former residents, the children immersed themselves in Stellantis’s impressive portfolio of seven brands available in South Africa. They also heard inspiring testimonies from three staff members who shared their personal journeys and triumphs in the automotive field, breaking barriers along the way.
“The automotive industry offers a global platform with sustainable career paths spanning automotive engineering, design, sales, human resources, finance, and public relations,” remarked Deidre du Plessis, Head of Corporate Communications at Stellantis SA.
Highlighting the industry’s significant impact on South Africa’s economy, du Plessis stated, “In 2022, the automotive sector contributed 4.9% to the country’s GDP, exported vehicles to 152 destinations, and generated R227.3 billion in foreign exchange.”

In line with its commitment to local development and sustainability, Stellantis SA announced a R3 billion investment in a new manufacturing facility in the Eastern Cape. This initiative aims to produce vehicles tailored for the African market, create jobs, and foster community growth under its circular economy principles.
“We believe in investing in the regions where we operate, creating meaningful impacts through job creation and community enrichment,” du Plessis emphasized. “Hosting these bright children today, showcasing the possibilities within our industry, is a privilege. We are eager to support them as they embark on their own paths.”
SOS Children’s Villages, dedicated to providing safe havens and nurturing environments for vulnerable children across South Africa, commended Stellantis SA for empowering youth to shape their futures and contribute positively to their communities.
“The automotive sector offers opportunities across various educational and skill levels, playing a pivotal role in economic advancement,” du Plessis added. “Today, we unveiled the potential for the next generation to make significant contributions and transform their lives.”
Stellantis South Africa, a subsidiary of Stellantis NV formed by the merger of FCA and PSA in 2021, plays a crucial role in the company’s ambitious Dare Forward 2030 strategy. This strategy aims to achieve an annual production of one million units with 70% localization and a 22% market share in the Middle East and Africa by 2030.
