THE CLASSIC CAR SHOW, NASREC, MARCH 3, 2013

Over 1 500 cars expected for the second rendition of The Classic Car Show

Johannesburg Classic Car Show

Once again, custom pick-up trucks will be huge at Nasrec

The organisers of one of the biggest classic car events in South Africa to date are hosting their second show at Nasrec, and this time they are expecting to surpass the outstanding figure of 1 500 classic cars that attended the first event last October. They also expect to exceed the attendance figure of 22 000 people for last year’s show.

Once again the event will be hosted by www.ClassicCars.co.za and Rolling Thunder, the classic car restoration experts.

Rolling Thunder Managing Director Mark Groenewald is one of the leading figures in the American classic and muscle car movement, and Rolling Thunder this year will also be show-casing some of its finest restored classics in Hall 10 at Nasrec on show-day.

“Cars and Rock and Roll. I love them” commented Mark Groenewald, who has assured fans that once again rock legends Ballyhoo will be playing driving rock n roll throughout the day.

Johannesburg Classic Car Show 2013

“We have indentified early March as the ideal time for our second large-scale Nasrec event,” says organiser Paulo Calisto, the driving force behind The Classic Car Show which drew a record 1 500 cars, and over 22 000 visitors last October.

“Once again we will be holding the event at the Nasrec Expo Centre, South of Johannesburg, with the main action taking place in the main arena. And for this show we are spicing things up with a number of innovations:

  • For the first time we will be hosting the bike clubs and we will have an array of customs, cruisers, Harleys of all types, superbikes and classic motorcycles
  • We are inviting the supercar clubs to participate. We will definitely have some very interesting Ferraris, Porsches and Lamborghinis on show
  • We will also have part of the fairground in operation, so the kids can enjoy rides all day while mom and dad drool over the cars.

“This show marks the first anniversary of our entry into car-show hosting and all of them were a huge success,” says Paulo Calisto. “So we want this one to be truly special.”

Paulo Calisto confirms that the rock group Ballyhoo will once again be taking centre stage, as well as the very popular Elvis Impersonator and back-up group which went down so well at the previous show.

As for the cars, expect a plethora of muscle cars, Cobras, hot rods, MGs, Ford Cortinas and Peranas, modified pick ups from the 1950s and 1960s, and plenty of classic early VW Beetles, Kombis and Karmann Ghias. Classic Volvos are certain to make the show too, as well as a variety of British and Italian classics.

Admission will be at Gate Two only, and drivers of classic cars and one passenger will be admitted free, although additional passengers will have to pay

The Classic Car Show will open its doors at the Nasrec Expo Centre, south west of Johannesburg, at 8 am to petrolheads on Sunday March 3, 2013. Exhibitors who want to bring their special show cars the night before will be catered for with special parking and security.

Admission will be R60 for adults, while children under 12 will have free entry. Anyone driving a classic car will also be admitted free as well as one adult passenger, but additional adult passengers will have to pay the full admission fee.

The Nasrec Expo Centre is located to the east of the N1 Highway, close to Soccer City, on Rand Show Road, Nasrec. (GPS – S26° 14.810’ E27° 58.695’).
