Hispano Suiza has marked its 120th anniversary with the world premiere of the Carmen Sagrera, the latest addition to its exclusive hypercar range. The Sagrera, the third model in the Carmen lineup, boasts a striking new design and state-of-the-art technology, embodying the epitome of luxury and performance.

The Carmen Sagrera features a large stork-wing shaped rear spoiler, a nod to the brand’s iconic logo, and interiors that elevate the Gentleman Driver concept to new heights. Equipped with a second-generation 103 kWh battery, the Sagrera offers an impressive driving range of up to 480 km (WLTP).

The grand unveiling took place at Finca Mas Solers, celebrating the company’s rich legacy with an event that brought together the Hispano Suiza team, media, ambassadors, customers, and friends. Miguel Suqué, President of Hispano Suiza, reflected on the company’s journey, stating, “We continue to embody the pioneering spirit of my great-grandfather Damiàn Mateu and his business partner Marc Birkigt. Our story is one of innovation, passion, and teamwork, driven by a unique and challenging project with a lot of soul.”

CEO Sergio Martínez Campos highlighted the significance of the Sagrera, saying, “With the Sagrera, we solidify the Carmen range, which began in 2019. We are immensely proud of our achievements over the past five years. This year, 2024, marks a period of acceleration as we expand into key markets like the United States, complete European homologation, and celebrate our storied legacy.”

The new model was introduced with a captivating light and dance performance by the internationally acclaimed dancer Sol Picó. Development driver and brand ambassador Luis Pérez Sala drove the Carmen Sagrera onto the stage, underscoring the car’s dramatic debut.

The Evolution of Electric Technology
The Carmen Sagrera incorporates Hispano Suiza’s second-generation battery technology, featuring advanced lithium-ion cell packs with a total capacity of 103 kWh. This innovative battery, developed and manufactured entirely at the company’s facilities in Montmeló, Barcelona, enhances energy density and extends the driving range by approximately 100 km compared to its predecessor.

Technical Director Juan Fernández explained, “Our new battery system offers improved performance and sustainability. The new cooling system is lighter and more efficient, ensuring better temperature control and lower energy consumption.” The battery’s central T-shaped position also enhances the car’s weight distribution and dynamic performance.

A Bold Statement in Design and Performance
The Carmen Sagrera’s design pays homage to Hispano Suiza’s heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern aesthetics. The front-end design, inspired by the historic Hispano Suiza Alfonso XIII sports cars, features a pointed grille and redesigned bonnet vents that improve both aesthetics and functionality. New side sills and a prominent rear spoiler enhance aerodynamics and add to the car’s sporty profile.

Francesc Arenas, Head of Design at Hispano Suiza, noted, “We aimed to uphold the brand’s sporty legacy while refining the Gentleman Driver concept. The Sagrera represents the pinnacle of sportiness and tradition, setting the stage for future designs that cater to our discerning customers.”

The rear spoiler, designed to resemble stork wings, optimizes aerodynamics, blending seamlessly with the carbon fiber and copper-accented rear diffuser. These enhancements significantly increase downforce and grip, improving the car’s cornering and lateral acceleration capabilities.

Inside, the Carmen Sagrera offers a luxurious yet sporty ambiance. The redesigned center console and infotainment system, upholstered in Alcantara with black and red leather details, emphasize exclusivity and quality. The multimedia system provides comprehensive connectivity options and customizable welcome messages.

Performance to Match the Design
The Sagrera is powered by four 205 kW motors, delivering a combined output of 1,100 hp and 1,160 Nm of torque. This setup enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds. The motors, connected in series, drive the rear wheels through a virtual self-locking differential, ensuring optimal performance and efficient torque transfer to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires.

The suspension system, featuring adjustable shock absorbers and coil springs, delivers racing-level performance. Lightweight suspension components made from military-grade materials and aerospace-grade bolts ensure durability and precision. The advanced braking system, with 400 mm carboceramic discs, provides exceptional stopping power and heat resistance.

A Grand Debut at Goodwood
Following its world premiere, the Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera will make its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, showcasing its capabilities on the iconic hill climb in mid-July.
