The world is in the midst of a profound transformation. Cities are choking under the weight of emissions, governments are racing to meet ambitious climate targets, and consumers—driven by cost, convenience, and conscience—are increasingly embracing electric and hybrid alternatives. In this era of change, Changan has not only joined the race toward sustainable mobility—it has helped define it.
From First Mover to Industry Leader
Changan’s journey into electrification began with foresight. As the first Chinese automaker to mass-produce and sell hybrid vehicles, the company recognised early that the future of transportation lay beyond fossil fuels. While electric vehicles were often dismissed as experimental or niche, Changan invested deliberately in developing a low-carbon, intelligent mobility ecosystem.
This pioneering spirit led to the launch of Changan’s first all-electric vehicle, the Eado EV, in 2015. But Changan’s ambition has never been limited to market share or technology for technology’s sake. The company has remained guided by a singular vision: to create intelligent, low-carbon mobility capable of meeting the demands of a planet in flux.
In alignment with China’s dual carbon goals—peaking emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060—Changan has set even more ambitious targets: reaching its carbon peak by 2027 and full neutrality by 2045. These objectives permeate every aspect of the company’s operations, from research and development to manufacturing, and are reflected in the very design of its vehicles.

A Multi-Pronged Strategy for a Sustainable Future
Changan’s approach to electrification is anchored in two complementary strategies: the Mission of Shangri-La and the Dubhe Plan.
Launched in 2017, the Mission of Shangri-La seeks to create a fully integrated ecosystem of sustainable design and production. It combines cutting-edge R&D, strategic industry partnerships, and an often-overlooked emphasis on driver enjoyment—a reminder that sustainability should never come at the expense of the driving experience.
The Dubhe Plan, unveiled a year later, adds a dimension of intelligence to Changan’s mobility vision. Focusing on digital ecosystems, autonomous driving, and real-time human-vehicle interaction, it seeks not merely to produce smarter cars, but to transform the experience of mobility itself. Every ride becomes more seamless, connected, and attuned to the needs of the driver.
This dual focus on green technology and intelligent systems defines Changan’s operations. In 2022 alone, the company consumed nearly 38 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity in its manufacturing processes, cutting over 32,000 tonnes of emissions. Across its vehicle production, Changan achieved a 5.1% year-over-year reduction in emissions, demonstrating that sustainable practices and industrial efficiency can coexist.
Electrification Today, Not Tomorrow
While many automakers continue to talk about electrification as a distant objective, Changan is delivering the future now. Its vehicles, production methods, and strategic initiatives exemplify how environmental responsibility, technological sophistication, and a commitment to consumer experience can converge.
In a world grappling with climate imperatives, Changan stands at the forefront, proving that innovation and sustainability are not just compatible—they are inseparable. By taking bold steps early, the company has positioned itself not merely as a participant in the electric revolution, but as a leader shaping the global transition to intelligent, low-carbon mobility.
